Myth has it that once there was a sculptor who wanted to create the perfect woman. He carefully formed her body and in the process fell in love with her. He dressed her in fine clothes, jewels, and kisses that warmed the marble. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, saw the sculptor's devotion and turned the statue into an actual woman. This theme has been popular since ancient times. The musical My Fair Lady was loosely based on this myth.
