Laus Veneris tells the story of a man who got sucked in to Venus'  grotto. He lived in sin and decadence for years before he realized he had been gone a day. Seeking repentance, he went to the pope. The pope told him sarcastically that he would be forgiven when his staff bloomed into flowers. Disheartened, the man decided to go back to Venus. Several days later the pope's staff miraculously blossomed. The pope sent messengers to find the man, but it was too late, he was lost to Venus forever.
